How to select the appropriate material for infrared wedge prisms?
CO₂ laser applications(10.6 μm): the preferred material is ZnSe(low absorption and high damage threshold).
Multispectral compatibility: ZnS (VIS to IR transmission).
Ultra-broadband requirements: CaF₂ (UV to MIR).
High refractive index needs: Ge or Si ( Ge shows performance degradation at elevated temperatures).
